George Sauerberg is a copy editor on the universal desk at The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Chicago native, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from Northwestern University. George worked at the Milwaukee Sentinel for 18 1/2 years, 16 as a sportswriter before becoming features copy editor. he was acting features editor at the Iowa City Press-Citizen before joining The Gazette as a copy editor in 1999. He was a features writer/copy editor at The Gazette for nearly seven years. In 2001, he received an honorable mention in the National Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest for a sports feature on Iowans training for the Chicago Marathon. George and his wife, Vilia, live in Iowa City. Their son, Ted, 23, lives in Centennial, Colo.
