Diversity Fellowships, 2008

The American Association of Sunday and Feature Editors' membership is committed to developing newsroom staffs representative of the multicultural communities it servestoday. Toward this goal, AASFE will award Diversity Fellowships to talented journalists of color to attend its 62nd annual conference in Houston, Texas, Oct. 15-18, 2008.

Fellowships are awarded to writers, editors, copy editors, page designers and multimedia journalists in the United States and Canada who  produce arts and features contentboth in print and online, or those  interested in pursuing careers in arts and features.

Fellows get the chance to meet and network with outstanding journalists who specialize in lifestyles coverage. They also participate in multimedia storytelling  opportunities during the conference. And, in order to pass along what  they learnat the AASFE conference, fellows will be asked to conduct a  brown-bag seminar when they return to their news organizations. AASFE will cover fellows’ registration, airfare, hotel and most meals.

To apply for a 2008 Diversity Fellowship, applicants must submit THREE  copies each of:

•  A letter explaining your interest in the fellowship and your  perspective about the future of arts/features coverage
• A resume
• A professional letter of recommendation
   
• Writers must submit five stories demonstrating a versatile writing style
• Editors must submit five samples of sections or pages with comments on  how stories were generated and/or edited
• Copy editors must submit five samples of work (three headlines with  stories attached; and two stories with editing comments)
• Page designers must submit five samples of work
• For those journalists with online-only work, please list Web links in your
  application letter 

 Applicants also must submit one publishable photo. Photos will not be returned.
